6 Places To See In Slovenia On An E-Bike

Slovenia, a small but quite mountainous country, has more than half of its land protected and covered with forest, making it one of the greenest countries in the world. As beautiful as Slovenia is, sometimes certain places might be hard to reach with a car, bus or train but with an electric bike (e-bike) many of hidden places became more accessible. Especially the places not known as ‘the popular’ places. Therefore, we introduce you 6 places to see in Slovenia on an e-bike.

1. Medieval Škofja Loka and mountain Blegoš

Škofja Loka is a beautiful medieval town only 20 minutes away from Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia. Its medieval charm and the surrounding hills are attracting tourists from all over the world. However, the surrounding hills themselves have not yet gained much recognition. Blegoš has one of the most beautiful panorama views in Slovenia and it is accessible with an e-bike almost all the way to the top. Normally, you bike till the Blegoš hut and then continue by foot to the top, where you are welcomed with a view you can’t forget.

2. Pokljuka and most astonishing vistas of the Julian Alps

Pokljuka is a forested plateau, located in the middle of Triglav National Park at around 1,200 m. The plateau is well known for its forest, mountain pastures, and the shepherd’s huts. All these make it look like a little fairytale village on the top of a mountain. Pokljuka is easily accessible with an e-bike and offers a nice family-friendly ride to the most marvelous pasture Zajamniki.

3. Magical Soča Valley

Soča is a 138km long river, which is known to be one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe, due to its turquoise color. It is a magnet for all nature and sports lovers. Although water sports prevail around this area, e-bikes are starting to get their recognition as well. As some hills and hidden waterfalls are not accessible by car, e-bikes become the perfect transportation mode to explore magical Soča valley.

4. Kras, the land of prosciutto and Teran

Kras, a motherland of prosciutto and Teran, is truly beautiful, due to the glorious vineyards that spread all across this region in the west part of Slovenia. It is no surprise that the best wine and prosciutto ham are produced right here. If you are a fan of wine and ham then Kras is a ‘must visit’ on your list. However, to capture all the beautiful villages and vineyards effortlessly, you should explore Kras on an e-bike. This will also save you some energy for the prosciutto and wine tasting.

5. Mountain pasture below Košuta

One of the most beautiful, but a little bit more difficult paths in the Gorenjska region unfolds through the forests and open terrain at the foot of the south slope of Košuta, Slovenia’s longest mountain. Once you reach higher grounds, the views of the mountains become priceless, as well as, the delicious local cuisine at Šija scouts hut. Due to a bigger ascent, the path can be a bit more difficult for a regular cyclist, but with an e-bike (i.e. the help of an electric motor) it becomes easier to master.

6. Marvelous Velika Planina

Velika Planina spreads on the edges of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, the valley of Kamniška Bistrica and the Upper Savinja Valley. The shepherds that have been herding here for centuries and their beautiful huts make it a true fairytale village on the top of a mountain. The true magic happens when the snow melts and nature comes back to life because a big field of saffron will be waiting for you. Velika Planina is easily accessible with an e-bike and is wonderful for family trips.
