Amber Fort

Located in the small town of Amber, at a distance of 11 kilometers from Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan, India, the Amber Fort is majestically built. It is one of the greatest tourist attractions in India and is the pride of Jaipur.

The fort has a captivating history as it was built in the 16^th century by Raja Shri Maan Singh Ji Saheb, one of the chief ministers of Mughal Emperor, Akbar. The fort’s architecture is a perfect blend of Hindu, Muslim and Rajput cultures. The magnificence of the fort is enhanced due to its location on the hills. A phenomenal view of the region can be seen from many parts of the fort.

The Diwan-e-Aam which means ‘Hall of Public Audience’ is an astounding capacious hall which is open on three sides. The hall has two strong ornamented pillars. It is believed the King used to meet the general public in this courtyard to listen to their needs.

The Diwan e-Khaas meaning ‘Hall of Private Audience’ is yet another courtyard which is marvellously carved out of delicate mosaic with glass work.

The third courtyard is the Sukh Niwas standing opposite to the Diwan e-Khaas. The doors to the courtyard are made of ivory and sandalwood.

The most beautiful part of the fort is the Sheesh Mahal which means ‘Mirror Palace’. You will be spellbound by gazing at the beauty of this section. The entire hall is carved out of glass and there are innumerable paintings and flowers made of pure glass. Lighting two candles in the room would result in a thousand glitters due to the amazing setting of the glasswork on the walls. It is believed that this part of the fort was built for the Queens to relax and have a splendid time by cherishing the beauty of this starlit room.

The Kesar Kyaari is yet another breathtaking part of the fort as it is a star-shaped garden and is incredibly stunning to look at. The garden is set on the Maota Lake, which looks serene. Various antiques are showcased in several parts of the fort that are bewildering to look at. You can spot two cannons at one of the gates in the fort which are an example of ancient Indian warfare.

You can also enjoy an Elephant ride up to the fort which is thrilling. It is a fun loving activity in the region and is usually taken by most of the tourists visiting the fort. There are many guides available at the entrance to the fort and it is advisable to hire one if you are interested in knowing the history of each part of the fort.

There is much more which this stunning fort can offer and a visit to the place is a must for all. A 10 minutes walk from the place where the car drops you will lead to the entrance of the fort. It is a remarkable example of ancient Indian architecture that still stands strong and tall.
