The Citadella in Budapest is a fortress located on top of Gellért Hill built in the year 1851 after the Hungarian Revolution and the perfect place to go and admire the city from a birds-eye point of view.
The citadella was finished in 1854 and in June of that same year, the Austrains settled in it. The building comprises an area of 235 meters and is 4 meters tall. Until 1899, the city was able to take possession of the Citadella and a year later, the walls were demolished.
While hiking up to the Citadella to admire the Danube river, the bridges and much more, you will pass a lot of places that are worth stopping at, including Gellért Hill Cave, which is a church inside a cave, and the baths next to it.
