The Bunkers del Carmel are located on the Turó de la Rovira hill in the district of El Carmel in Barcelona. The bunkers were used during the Spanish Civil War to defend the city. While the bunkers are interesting to look at, they are nothing special. The real reason people should visit is the panoramic view of Barcelona you’ll be able to appreciate from here. You’ll be able to spot the ocean on one side – with views of the Sagrada Familia, mount Tibidabo and more.
While it is a bit harder to reach this spot, the entrance is free, which is a huge relief for those travelling on a budget, considering the expensive entrance fees for other sites in Barcelona and Catalonia in general.
The bunkers are a great place to watch the sunset. If you visit during earlier hours, make sure to bring some sun block as there is no shade whatsoever on site. It is also a good idea to pack a good lunch for a romantic date here, or simply to enjoy a nice meal with amazing views with your friends or even alone.
