Gellért Baths are a part of Hotel Gellért in Budapest and they are said to contain healing properties. The baths are located near the famous Gellért Hill Cave, where a hermit used to live in centuries ago and was said to use the waters in the thermal lake to heal the sick and later on, during the Middle Ages, a hospital was located there. Today, the baths are famous for the gorgeous interior of the hall they are in, which was designed in an Art Nouveau style with mosaic tiles.

The bath complex was damaged during WWII and later on rebuilt. Baths were built during the Ottoman Empire’s reign and they were dubbed Sárosfürdő, which translates into “muddy bath”.

The water in the baths contains calcium, magnesium, hydrocarbonate, chloride, fluoride, sulfate and alkalis. Between the World Wars, the baths were expanded and a wave pool and bubble bath were added. Saunas, a swimming pool and massage centers were also added later
