The most famous haunted building in Mumbai

Mumbai India
The tower is a residential complex and only a portion of it has been deemed haunted. A visit inside the tower is not guaranteed. You have to try your luck if at all you wanted to.

Constructed in 1975, Grand Paradi is a 28-storey high residential tower built in the heart of South Mumbai and happens to be one of the most expensive properties in the city, residents ranging from diamond merchants to businessmen. It is also one of the oldest and biggest complexes of its kind and offers a magnificently panoramic view of the surrounding expanse from its balconies, for a price of INR40,000 per square feet.

Having said that, would it be too hard to believe that this highly affluent residential complex is haunted?

Yes, it is. Or, that’s what people believe. Strangely enough, there have been more than 20 fatal accidents, and suicides in and around this complex, of which 9 have been in the last 17 years?

Sunday, June 14, 1998: An elderly couple, Vasudeo Dalal and his wife Tara Dalal jumped off the balcony of their eighth floor residence but not before the husband left a suicide note behind stating that their extreme decision of ending their lives is a result of a torturous life they led due to the harassment and torture of their son Balkrishna and daughter-in-law Sonal. The police arrested the accused two days later. During the court proceedings, Vasudeo’s sister confirmed that her brother and sister-in-law were indeed being tortured by the son and his wife.

Monday, March 28, 2005: On the morning of March 28th, 2005, Balkrishna, his wife Sonal, and their 19-year old daughter Pooja jumped off from the same balcony in the same manner as their parents did. It is believed that they took this step fearing to be convicted and sent to prison as it was the day of their final hearing of the Dalal’s court case proceedings which continued for seven years. Right after this death, a ceremony was organized by the Grand Paradi Co-Operative Housing Society to get rid of any evil presence of disturbing elements from the eighth floor which may have resulted in the suicides of three generations of the same family. The flat has been sealed off and remains unoccupied.

Thursday, April 26, 2001: Narayan Ramchander, a 36-year-old domestic help threatened to jump off the 19th floor of the building after he was accused of stealing and theft by his employers of 15 years.

Saturday, October 28, 2006: Charisma Kadakia, the 24-year old daughter of Anil Kadakia – Honorary consul general of Brazil, jumped off the balcony of her boyfriend Nipun Doshi’s fifth-floor residence in Navyug Sagar Building, which is approximately two kilometers from Grand Paradi. It is believed that Charisma’s family were unsupportive of her relationship with Nipun due to the variance in their social classes and this has caused Charisma to suffer from depression and being medically treated for it. She went to the balcony and even before Nipun could have guessed, she jumped off of the balcony.

There are several other such stories which have also been reported by many news channels in the country, however, most believe that the suicides have been mainly caused due to some sort of pressure or other reasons which surround affluent people normally. But, this form of aggression and mental imbalance in so many people living in and around the towers of Grand Paradi have definitely raised eyebrows and eventually have turned into possible suspicions of paranormal presence.
