Thailand, the Land of Smiles, has a bit of everything: Mountains, trekking opportunities, beautiful people, and loads to see and do seem to be everywhere a discerning traveler decides to go. Perhaps it is best known, however, as being a tropical paradise. On this account, Hua Hin certainly does not disappoint. To be fair, Thailand is not short of beach destinations, some within a very short driving distance from Bangkok, but I find Hua Hin to be a hidden gem tucked away from the hustle and bustle of some of the more famous tourist destination scattered throughout the country.
Hua Hin has a little something for everyone. To begin, it is a relatively easy and relaxing three-hour drive from Bangkok’s International Airport. There are many options that one has to get to this particular beach side town, including taxis and a bus, but I recommended hiring one of the many private car companies to take you and your traveling companions there in style. Not only will the ride be more enjoyable, but it is incredibly affordable as well. In addition, you can always ask your private driver to stop en-route should you need or have the desire to do so, and you will be dropped right off at your booked hotel in Hua Hin. What could be better than that?!
Hua Hin is considered one of Thailand’s most family friendly locations; so do not hesitate to bring your little ones in tow. While Hua Hin is not known for the level of adult playground entertainment as other areas throughout the country, that can be found as well. Beach activities, and swimming pools as well, abound so be sure to bring the proper gear. In addition, there are opportunities for elephant trekking and other animal oriented activities, so prepare for the adventure at hand.
As most any hotel or guesthouse in the area comes complete with a hot breakfast, you will be starting each morning with the energy you need to tackle whatever activities await. Some might just take it easy and see what each day brings, while others will want to take adventure of one or more of the dozens of day tours that offered around the area. As most tours will begin and end at your chosen place of lodging, the convenience factor could not be greater.
Getting around town, while not as cheap and easy to accomplish as in the big city of Bangkok, is still affordable according to Western standards. Visitors can take modern forms of Tuk Tuks or taxis, or the healthier among us might just choose to walk from place to place until they can’t take it anymore and hail a taxi to return them ‘home’ to crash. Whatever you decide to do, you are the boss in Thailand. Let each day in Hua Hin be an adventure and enjoy the clean sand, nice ocean water and breeze, and friendly people that you are sure to encounter at every turn.
