One of the most iconic mountains in Iceland

Kirkjufell, Iceland

As for those who are simply crazy about mountains , one could not imagine a more perfect destination than Iceland. It has so many diverse mountains scattered all around the country that it is actually pretty hard to nominate some of the best ones. However, if I would be asked to do so, without any long doubting I would name Kirkjufell Mountain (The mountain of churches) to be a spot that just HAS to be visited and there is pretty long list of answering why it is so.

First of all, the 463 meters high mountain is located on Snaefellsnes peninsula – a gorgeous yet not touristy part of Western Iceland which encompasses variety of gems – both human-made attractions that can be found in such lovely towns as Grundarfjörður and Stykkishólmur and nature formations – volcanoes, lava fields, mountains etc. The peninsula seems geographically small however it is actually pretty exciting due to its vast variety of sightseeing highlights and activities so it is a great choice for those who are up to all kinds of experiences.

Secondly and most importantly it surely is the view of the mountain that it just cannot be described in any other word than ‘impressive’. Both tourists and locals alike agree that this probably is one of the most picturesque of all the mountains in Iceland and the small waterfall and lake surely contributes greatly in forming such a wonderful and unforgettable view which is amazing in every season. Knowing this, it actually it does not matter which time of the year you visit Kirkjufell – it is constantly splendid and does not stop amazing and attracting people. Pathways have been made for the convenience of the visitors and the area is nice for a short walk in the nature while gazing at this beauty of the nature.

How to get there
