The creation of the Lake Velenje is one of the most unusual ones: due to the long years of mining activity in the Valley of Šalek, subsidence caused a water flood, which resulted in a series of three lakes: Lake Škale, Lake Družmirje, and Lake Velenje.
With its 54 meter depth, Lake Velenje is the deepest lake of Slovenia and the largest of the three lakes. The lake is almost in a rectangular shape, approximately 1.4 kilometers long and 1.3 kilometers wide.
The area around Lake Velenje is ideal for a day of fun outdoors. Water sports, swimming, and sailing are just a few of the possible activities that can be done in the area. The Velenje beach is nearby and there are many camping sites around for those who wish to stay longer.
