Djurdjevac is located in the Drava valley, between two natural and geographic regions; between the northern slopes of hill Bilogora and Drava River. In the Drava valley distinguish three main relief elements: fertile terraces, Djurdjevac sands and debris lowland area. Djurdjebac sands are remains of the only Croatian desert. This desert is located in the eastern part of the city.
Old town Djurdjevac was built by Bishop Sigismund Ernust probably around 1488, on a hill in the midst of the swamp to the north of the former place Djurdjevac because of the Turkish threat and constant conflict among the nobles. Now is museum of local art in old town fortress.
