DISCOVER ROME: 7 UNMISSABLE PLACES

Piazza Eugenio Biffi 9
Try Pasta alla Carbonara (pasta with egg and bacon) and Pasta alla Matriciana (tomato and porck cheeck): the are superb!
You have to arm yourself with all the romance and poetry that are in your soul: Rome must be seen with the heart. One caution: watch out for thieves in search of unwary tourists ... And be careful when you cross the road: Roman drivers are reckless
As in any large city, beware of downtown restaurants: they are very expensive and you don't always eat well.

Rome is one of the most beautiful cities in the world: is there the need to say it? The ideal is to have a year to be able to fully explore it but, since this isn’t possible, I must point out (my) sine qua non for a two to three-day trip. It’s hard to choose the most important places, because the Italian capital is a celebration of life, art, history, parks … I will try to be “synthetically complete” but I want to go beyond the most famous places ( Colosseum, St. Peter’s, Castel Sant’Angelo) because, more or less, you know them all.

VILLA DORIA PMPHILI

For me, it’s one of the most beautiful parks in Italy. Villa Pamphili is huge, a real green lung within the metropolis. Lying beneath the almond trees in bloom, riding in it and and having a picnic in front of the historic villa it’s priceless.

THE TIBER RIVERSIDE

Do you want to enjoy Rome from a different perspective and in contact with the river and its animals? Walking along the Tiber is relaxing, informative and a panacea for your eyes. Arm yourself with comfortable shoes, because the Tiber is very, very long …

OSTIA ANTICA

[Picture is mine]

It’s an archeological site of incredible beauty. You can discovere there how Romans used to live. In addition, you can reach the sea in a few minutes by car or bus.

SAN PAOLO FUORI LE MURA – CHURCH

[Picture from Wikipedia]

It’s absolutely my favourite church in Rome. You can reach it by subway. After the visit, you can relax on the front lawn.

PARCO DEGLI ACQUEDOTTI

[Picture is mine]

It isn’t only a park but a surprise for your all of your senses. A great, ancient aqueduct dominates the park.

GIANICOLO

[Picture is mine]

Here you can discover many places you maybe watched in The Great Beauty, by the filmaker Paolo Sorrentino. Please, observe the marvelous statues that watch you from the top of this beautiful hill.

CHIOSTRO DEL BRAMANTE

[Picture is mine]

An international cultural centre near Piazza Navona. There’s also a nice cafe inside.

How to get there

You can move "smoothly" with the city's metro. Unfortunately it is always very crowded, especially during peak hours. For this advice, as far as possible, move on foot, especially in the center.
