The beating heart of Salamanca

The Plaza Mayor is the main square and the heart of Salamanca, located in the center of the city and is a popular gathering area for the residents and students who reside in the city as it is lined by restaurants, shops, ice cream parlors and more. The city hall is located here as well.


Its construction began in 1729 and was completed until 1755 in a baroque style under the order of Felipe V. Originally, The plaza’s purpose was for bullfighting as it was used as such until the middle of the 19th century.
