In ancient times it was the capital of the province, but in the time of the migration was abandoned and later east of the ruins of the ancient city is developed Croatian town of Solin. In the eastern part of Salona were discovered parts of residential buildings and the remains of the city insula, east of Porta Caesarea are ruins of luxury villas, probably Praetorium, the palace of the governor of the province.
