Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm von Baden, after victorious battles against the Ottoman army famously known as “Turks Louis”, built the Rastatt Great: it is based on the model of Versailles and the oldest and the largest monument in Rastatt. this extravagant residence was built at the end of the 17th century on the Upper Rhine – Exactly on the axis between the Alsatian Fort Louis and the margrave’s palace Ettlingen. Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm of Baden (1655 – 1707) and the Italian architect Domenico Egidio Rossi created the baroque structure. It was modeled after the castle of the French “Sun King” Louis XIV.
