Majorca's sufer and kiter beach at the north

Son Serra de Marina, Islas Baleares, Spain
There ate two restaurants right next to the parking lot. The restaurant El Lago serves Majorcan food. The Sunshine-Bar El Sol has a relaxed atmosphere.

The quiet beach Son Serra de Marina is situated in the north of Majorca, in the bay of Alcudia. It is a favoured beach by locals, as it is maybe the calmest beach to be found in this bay. The village itself is a chequered urbanization with solely one and two-floor buildings. You will not find any hotels here and also restaurants and bars are scarce. After high season in September you will feel like entering a ghost town, as tourism will decline to a few locals.

The dunes and beach vegetation in this zone are protected and stand under nature conservation. Walking through the dunes, you will come across rosemary, juniper, sea-daffodil and thistles. Many different birds nest in the dunes and the surroundings, be careful to not disturb them. Another curiosity of the beach are the eye-catching stone obelisks. They were used for direction finding exercise by the marines. The beach stretches over 2 kilometers and offers ample space for everyone. It will never get crammed and you do not need to fear to accidentally share your towel with the neighbor lying next to you. Also if you are a nudist-lover, this beach will be perfect. For sure you will find a quiet and empty spot, where you can be undisturbed.

For many other beach-goers, however, it is not Son Serra’s sandy beach that interests them, but the sea itself. The place is known as one of the best water sport spots you can find on the island. There is almost always enough wind for kite-surfing. You will see teachers training newbies improving their skills with the kite on the beach. Others are already in the water, showing off their jumps with the help of the wind. Also surfers come here to catch some waves. This of course depends on the tide and the wind. So, if you are a surfer, you should inform yourself on the conditions beforehand. Other water sports practiced at Son Serra de Marina are sailing and paddle boarding. However, be aware of the fact that none of the materials needed to do some of these sports can be rented at the beach.

Unlike at most of the other beaches on Majorca, at Son Serra de Marina you will not find any beach facilities like sun chairs or parasols. Next to the beach are two restaurants. In the restaurant El Lago, which serves delicious local food, you should especially try the Bacalao (dried cod). The restaurant Sunshine-Bar el Sol is frequented among surfer. It has a chilled and relaxed atmosphere and a Caribbean-like feeling.
