Verdon Gorge

The Gorges du Verdon (Verdon Gorge), often dubbed “The Grand Canyon of Europe”, is a 25 kilometer long and 700 meeter deep river canyon located in southeastern France over several municipalities of Castellane and Moustiers Saint Marie. Irrefutably, it is one of Europe’s most beautiful canyons due to its turquoise waters and the nature around it. It is worth a detour for anyone travelling in France, especially those who find themselves near the French Riviera due to its proximity to the canyon.

In 1990, it became a protected site. Its source comes from the col d’Allos hill in the Trois Evecehs mountain range, from where it continues, flowing into the Durace river near Vinonsur Verdon.

Visitors can engage in several activities while here, including kayaking, rafting, paragliding, climbing over the canyon’s limestone walls, hiking and more. The most famous hike is “Le sentier de Martel“, which will take you in a 15 kilometer long hike along the banks of the river to Châlet de la Maline.
