Special Nature Reserve Zasavica is a nature reserve under state protection from 1977 as a natural asset of great importance. Reserve extends in northern Macva in the municipality of Sremska Mitrovica and Bogatic. This is a swampy area with water meadows and forest area of 1825 acres along the Zasavica River with the length of 33.1 kilometers. Habitat has hundreds of species of birds, animals and fish. In this reserve lives fish European mudminnow, and since 2004 the families of beavers who have adapted well to their new environment – some families have already received babies, and all have already built their own home – on and under water.
