Zipolite is a beach located in the coast of Oaxaca between the more famous beaches of Huatulco and Puerto Escondido. Zipotle is known for its nude beach, the hippie culture from the 60’s, its nature, and its rustic cabins on the beach.
During the early 20th century, it was inhabited by only one family until the 60’s, when it became a popular destination for tourists due to its nature and lack of law enforcement. Today, there are many concrete hotels in the area, but its hippie vibe persists and there are many rustic cabins and camping grounds on the beach for backpackers. Attitude towards marihuana use, even though its illegal in Mexico, remains pretty relaxed here and music from the 60’s can be heard everywhere.
The beach stretches over two kilometers along the coast with blue and green waters and gold coloured sand, palm trees, cabins and hammocks.
Zipolite was featured in the famous Mexican film “Y tu mamá también”.
