Best Croatian Islands

1. Pag

Pag is the fifth largest Croatian island. It’s exposed to very violent bora wind, as none of the other larger Croatian islands. From here originates famous Pag food products such as Pag cheese, ham, and Pag lamb.
 

2. Mali Lošinj

The island was first mentioned in the year 1388. Houses from this period were built in the Baroque style. The island was due to its specific climate declared as a climatic health resort. You will experience the symphony of colors, fragrances and tastes, and the island’s traditional cuisine based on wild, aromatic herbs and olive oil. The island is ideal for a romantic holiday, as it has over 220 kilometers of walking paths, which are connected to the other islands.
 

3. Zrće Beach

It has beautiful sandy beaches appropriate for family holidays, but it’s also known by the name Party beach Zrce. Zrče has several all hours discotheques and beach bars, which are hosting internationally known DJs.
 

4. Dugi Otok

Dugi Otok was mentioned in the 10th Century and by the size, is the 7th among the Croatian islands. It is known by crystal clear, azure water and white, sandy beaches. It offers many hidden lovely beaches, perfect for researchers, but also for all those who want privacy and peace.
 

5. Telascica Nature Park

On the south-eastern part of the island is Telascica Nature Park with 13 islands and salt Lake “Mir” (which means “Peace”) with healing mud. Don’t be surprised if you see donkeys as they live in this area and freely walk around the bay Mir. The Park offers many organized tours for different water sports, scuba diving, fishing, biking, and photo-hunt. There are also some traditional seafood and other restaurants.
 

6. Brač

Brac is an island, which was continuously inhabited since the Neolithic period. This is evidenced by the findings in the cave Kopacina. Brac is famous for its beach Zlatni rat in Bol, which is on the list of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world. It is covered with fine smooth stones. Beach Bol is in a triangular shape, with the tip which rotates depending on the direction of ocean currents. Due to favorable winds, Bol beach is a favorite among lovers of windsurfing. The highest peak of Brac and also the highest peak among the Adriatic islands is the Vidova Mountain (778 m). It is a great choice for a hiking trip and it offers a spectacular view of the Adriatic Sea and the islands of Solta, Hvar, and Vis.
 

7. Biševo

Bisevo is one of the Croatian islands that have the longest distance from the mainland coast. It’s only 5.84 km2 large and the coastline around it measures only 16 kilometers. It is known for its sea caves. The most famous of them is the Blue Cave, which has a distinctive white illumination. It is also known for its wine Plavac and sandy beaches. On the island lives less than 20 people, some of them have their own cars and tourists are not allowed to come on the island with their own car.
 

8. Porat Beach

It is a very popular tourist destination, where tourists can simply recharge their batteries and rest from the city noise. You can rent a suite and enjoy in “Robinson vacation.” Just a few years ago some paths were extended to become the roads, but still, the best transport is a donkey. It is rich with many wild and healing plants, as wild garlic, wild grapes, rosemary, capers, oregano, fennel, wormwood, which can be picked easily. There are no snakes or other poison plants on the island.
 

9. Hvar

Hvar is an island that has a very mild climate and a huge number of sunny days. Therefore is known as the most famous island of the Adriatic. It is covered with vineyards, olive groves, and fragrant lavender. It has many cultural monuments and pleasant beaches surrounded by pine forests. The rich cultural and historical heritage of Hvar, which dates from prehistoric times, unique gastronomy, beautiful beaches and bays, crystal clear sea, quality private accommodation, great hotels, and the kindness and friendliness of the locals are the reasons why to visit this island.
 

10. Korčula

Korcula was constantly inhabited since Neolithic times. Before the year 1998, it was very famous for its Mediterranean vegetation, vineyards and pine forests. In 1998, it was affected by the terrible fire, which destroyed the central part of the island. Korcula has many beautiful bays and little islands, the north shore is very low and easily accessible and the south coast is steeper and more dynamic. In some places, the rocks are ranging up to 40 meters above the sea level. It’s supposed to be the birthplace of the famous world traveler, Marco Polo. His birth house is located in the old town.
 
It is a perfect place for sunbathing on the beautiful beaches, (some of them are nudist), diving, kayaking, boat rides, and swimming in clear water or just ride a bike as it has very nice regulated bike paths with beautiful panoramic viewpoints.
