Is Slovenia in the Schengen area?

Yes, since March 30th 2008, Slovenia is part of the Schengen Area.
 

What are the customs formalities?

Customs formalities depends from where you’re entering.

• If you’re entering from countries that are part of the Schengen Area such as Italy, Austria or Hungary, there is generally no borders control.
• If you’re entering from Croatia, which is not a full member of the Schengen Area yet, you may need a passport or an ID card if your visit is less than 3 months.

How to get from Airport Jože Pučnik to Ljubljana without a car?

There are many ways to get from Airport Jože Pučnik to Ljubljana.

• By bus (4,10 €): every hour or so, a bus departs from the Airport Jože Pučnik to the main station in Ljubljana. You can buy the tickets directly at the driver, so no need to book in advance. The ride is approximately 45 minutes. Check the timetables here.
• By taxi (30-40 €): the fastest but more expensive way to get to Ljubljana (or anywhere you want to go). You can easily find a taxi in front of the airport or you can book one in advance: +386 (0)4 206 16 78.

What day trips can I do from Ljubljana?

Ljubljana is central to a lot of attractions. There are many day trips that you can do, especially if you are traveling by car. Here are a few suggestions:

Do I need an international driving license to drive in Slovenia?

Yes and no, depends on where you’re from.

• If you’re from an EU European country, then no, you don’t need an international driving license.
• If you’re from a non-EU European country, then no, but it’s highly recommended to have an international driving license.
• If you’re from another continent, then yes, you need an international driving license.

In any case, if you plan to drive in Slovenia, make sure that you have a valid vignette to drive on highways.
 

How much does a vignette cost?

Way less than a fine, which is between 300 to 800 euros.
A valid vignette is mandatory to drive on the Slovenian highways. They can easily be bought at petrol stations and post offices.
For class 2a, which is for cars.

• Yearly vignette: 110,00 €
• Monthly vignette: 30,00 €
• Weekly: 15,00 €

 

Can I travel around Slovenia by public transport?

Yes, you can travel by bus and train.
