Who said Halloween is limited to a fancy-dress party or watching scary movies alone with a bag of popcorn? It doesn’t have to be the same old thing every single year – and we have the best ideas. Why don’t you travel to some of the spookiest (and also fun) places to be on Halloween?

Below we have listed, what we believe are, the spookiest places to travel for this Halloween in the world, that all those spook-seekers need to travel to. Here they are, beware, they will keep you awake at night.

When you think of Paris, your mind probably jumps straight to the Eiffel tower, the Arc de Triumph or the beautiful streets. Whilst these are amazing, this Halloween you should experience the darker side of Paris with a trip to the Catacombs.

Make your way down the eerie tunnels lined with human bones. Discover the religion and superstition surrounding the entire ancient graveyard. The remains of about six million people lie within these tunnels, we guarantee that the entire experience will not only creep you out but educate you too.

We had to mention it – let’s be honest, it wouldn’t be a Halloween travel list without the infamous Dracula’s Castle. In fact, the word ‘Transylvania’ might just send shivers down your spine already.

Dracula’s Castle is otherwise known as Bran Castle, and you have the amazing opportunity to visit the landmark. Obviously, the entire castle is famous as being the home of the creepy, bloodsucking Dracula character from Bram Stoker’s novel.

We couldn’t think of a better place to be in on Halloween than in Romania. The enchanting forests, gothic architecture and wonderful history, this could be the destination for you this Halloween.

3. Edinburgh – Blair Street Vaults

The whole of Scotland is so rich in history and culture, a trip there would never be a bad idea, but Edinburgh around Halloween would be a truly spooky experience. The History surrounding these vaults is enough to give you nightmares, never mind actually walking around them – they’re actually named among some of Edinburgh’s most haunted sites.

This tour is not for the faint-hearted, the vaults are known for being a hideout for criminals and smugglers, with a rumor that Burke and Hare (the murderers who took 17 lives) even carried out medical experiments in these vaults, which they would later earn money from.

We won’t give too much away; the guide will explain all the creepy killings and spooky hauntings. Definitely a must-visit.

4. Rome – Capuchin Crypt

Ah, Rome – a city so full of history, there’s no doubt that there is a lot of dark history too. The creepiest location has to be the Capuchin Crypt – the resting place of 4,000 bones, laid out as a weird type of décor.

You might have heard of this eerie tourist spot from its more common name – “The Bone Chapel”. It’s located beneath the Church of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini. When you visit Rome, you are spoilt for choice with the number of Catholic Churches to take a trip to, but the Capuchin Crypt allows you to come face to face with death…if that’s something you want to do?

Admittedly, it’s not exactly Halloween, it’s a couple days after…but it is a huge celebration in Mexico that you have to experience, at least once. It’s actually a day that Mexicans use to celebrate, honor and remember their lost loved ones. It’s not gloomy, it’s festive and colorful. The costumes will blow you away.

Dublin isn’t exactly lacking in spooky places to visit, but the creepiest of them all is definitely the Hellfire Club. It was once a hunting lodge but now sits as one of the most haunted places in Ireland. You’ll leave The Hellfire Club completely spooked.

The actual facts surrounding this haunted location are so scary – you can learn all about the eerie rituals that took place at this daunting location. There’s even a story in which the Devil actually sat playing cards with the guests at the club. Another story states that a man once visited and left so scared that he couldn’t speak or remember his own name. Would you dare to visit?

If you really want to get your adrenaline pumping this Halloween, a Jack the Ripper tour will do just that. You’ve more than likely heard of the gruesome murders committed by Jack the Ripper, still to this day it remains unknown who Jack the Ripper was, and why he did it.

The tour (which actually runs every day of the year) gives you the chance to visit the murder sites, examine all the victims, and see Whitechapel through the eyes of the murderer. It’s truly frightening.

Most Halloween tours won’t allow you to walk around the East End murder sites, this is a must for all those spooky lovers.

We hope that your Halloween is a truly terrifying and interesting experience this year. What could be better than traveling and celebrating? It doesn’t matter if you’re superstitious or not, these creepy locations will be sure to make an impact.
