The Yaffo Clock tower was erected to commemorate the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Abd al Hamid II. The tower was built with contributions of the residents of the city. The tower was completed by 1906.

It is one of seven similar towers built in the Holy Land during the Ottoman occupation. The others are located in Tsfat, Akko, Nazareth, Haifa, Shechem and Jerusalem. The latter does not exist any more.
