A precipice cave which is hiding a lot of mystery

This is an impressive precipice cave, formed by a falling river. The name of the cave comes from the form of the exit which was before the entrance. It looks like a devil’s head. There is one more reason for this name – nobody knows exactly how the river passes through the cave. If you drop something in the water, you will probably not find it again. Attempts have been made with big wooden pieces which just disappear and never appear on the water surface.

This mystery path of the water has taken the lives of two alpinists who in 1962 tried to research the cave and dived into the river.

The cave gives the beginning of many legends. According to one of them, this is where Orpheus entered the underworld kingdom of Hades in an attempt to save his beloved one – Eurydice.

During your tourist visit you will enter the cave through an artificially built entrance which leads to the main hall. It is called the ‘Roaring hall’ because of the noise of the falling river. This is why your guide will tell you the history of the cave before you enter. Otherwise, you will not be able to hear most of it.

After you reach the main hall, you will have to climb approximately 300 stairs which are narrow and steep, so you must have comfortable shoes.

You will go out of the cave through its natural entrance. When you look back, you will be able to see the vaporized water which is coming out. The exit is located much higher than the entrance and you will have passed a difficult but pretty interesting underground way.
