Hirsau Monastery, located 2 kilometers south of Calw in Baden-Württemberg, was built during 11th century. Many houses and congregations were under its influence making it one of the most powerful monastery of Germany.
During the year 1692, the monastery was destroyed by French troops; some of those ruins can still be seen. There is much to see and explore in the complex which was once the most significant economic center and a home to monks.
Some other attractions on the site include the Monastic buildings and The Gothic Church of St. Mary (Marienkirche).
