Koviljsko-Petrovaradinski rit is the special nature reserve on the territory of Vojvodina. It is a marsh complex along the Danube River and covers an area of 4840 hectares. Under the protection of the state since 1998 as a natural resource of great importance and it is in the first category of protection. Koviljsko-Petrovaradinski rit is a complex of marshy swamps and forest ecosystems in the flooded area of the Middle Danube. Features that make this area significant are diversity of geological forms of wetlands (backwaters, meanders, oxbow lakes), plant communities of wetlands (swamp forests interspersed with ponds, marshes, meadows and reeds) and especially the variety and abundance of fauna, especially waterfowl.
