Shrine of Virgin Mary of Bistrica, is one of the most popular and most visited Marian shrine in Croatia. Statue of Mary dates from the 15th century and was in church on Vinski Vrh. Because of the danger from the Turks, the statue was transferred to the parish church in Marija Bistrica, and in 1650 was walled in one window. Statue was found in 1684 and put on the place of honor. Since then, there are numerous pilgrimages till modern days. Pope John Paul II visited Marija Bistrica in 1998, when the shrine was specially arranged and extended.
