Moeraki Boulders, the strange spherical boulders

They can only be seen during low tide, check the local newspaper for more information.

The Moeraki Boulders is a collection of more than 50 huge spherical boulders spread on the Koekohe Beach. This strange but natural landscape on the coast of New Zealand took approximately 4 million years to form.

The size of those huge boulders varies from 50 centimeters to approximately 2 meters in diameter, a very impressive natural phenomena.

The Moeraki Boulders are legally protected, therefore, vandalism, stealing or moving them is strictly prohibited.

How to get there

The Moeraki Boulders are located on the Koekohe Beach, between Moeraki and Hampden, an easy drive on the State Highway 1, from the north or the south.
