Old Town of Hvar is a very popular historic core with many monuments from various historical periods. It’s located on an island with the same name in Dalmatia. The Old Town is rich in history and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Croatia. It belongs to the sunniest areas of the Mediterranean.
Hvar’s history lasts for millennia. Its wealth and contents are the result of numerous circumstances and advantages of Hvar, of which the most important is certainly the position of nautical ports. Hvar is one of the cultural centers of the Croatian Renaissance. Hvar cathedral’s present appearance was obtained through the 17th and 18th century and represents a synthesis of styles of Gothic, Renaissance, Mannerism and Baroque. Hvar theater is a cultural and social symbol of the island; it was founded in 1612 as the first civic theater in Europe.
