Lepoglava is the cradle of Croatian science, art and culture and was funded by the Pauline Church Order in the year 1400.

The town is the home of the first school in Croatia that introduced the study of philosophy and shortly afterwards, the study of theology.

Lepoglava lace, which originates from the town of Lepoglava, is on the UNESCO representative list as an intangible heritage of humanity.
