Virovitica has a long history, in written documents is mentioned already in 1234, when duke Koloman granted the privilege of privileged place. Medieval Castle was built on a slight hill, and it was a fortified feudal castle surrounded by moat water, which was destroyed during repeated Turkish invasions and conquest of the city in 1552. Pejacevic castle is still located in the center of Virovitica. The castle was built between 1800 and 1804 according to plans by the Viennese architect N. Roth. Virovitica is a city with rich cultural heritage. The Museum of Virovitca is thematically linked to the history of the city and the municipality Virovitica.
