Opatija park is a horticultural monument area of 3.64 hectares in city of Opatija. It is divided into 60 fields and has 150 plant species. Many of them come from distant parts of the world and are not typical for this area.
The formation of the park dates from 1845 to 1860, and was established together with Villa Angiolna that was owned by Iginio Scarpa, a great lover of nature. In this part there are many plants that were brought from the Far East, South America, Australia and other parts of the world.
Among the many interesting plants in the park occupies a special place Japanese camellia (Camellia japonica), which eventually became a recognizable symbol of Opatija. In the park is also the oldest building in Opatija, St. James Church, who was first mentioned in historical documents in 1449.
