One of the most unique medieval cemeteries in Bosnia

Village Radimlja in municipality Stolac

Radimlja is a necropolis located in Vidovo field, three kilometers west of Stolac.

This necropolis is one of the most valuable within Bosnia’s mediaeval monuments because of the number of tombs, diversity and presence of all basic forms, its relatively high artistic quality, the richness of the plastic decoration, the relief shows and inscriptions that mention the famous historical figures, as well as its unusual location and accessibility.

It appears on the Provisional List of National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina and was also added to the list of endangered monuments. The necropolis itself dates back to the late 14th century. However, the majority of the tombstones are from the 15th and 16th centuries.

In total, the site contains 133 monuments. Sixty three out of them are decorated copies. Among them all, the most numerous are twining vines with trefoils, a twisted ribbon, shields with swords, crosses, human and animal figures and hunting scenes.
