Slovene Ethnographic Museum is a museum “about people, for people“. Exhibitions are dedicated to cultural differences, to people from different parts of the world, to modern and traditional customs.
Everyday Slovenian life, festival life, cultures of Europe and the world can be met here in this five floor museum, through permanent and temporary exhibitions and by indulging into many activities that are offered in this museum.
Permanent exhibition in Slovene Ethnographic Museum, Between Nature and Culture offers an insight on Slovene and World heritage, everyday life and special festivals.
Interesting activities in Slovene Ethnographic Museum:
• Weaving atelier with the representation of manual weaving, from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 13:00.
• Pottery atelier with demonstration of traditional techniques of pottery making. Workshops are also organised here and a small gallery of products is arranged here. Check organised pottery classes on the museum home page before visiting.
• Movie corner holds the collection of movies from the exhibitions, documentary movies and movies from SEM production.
• Documentation part is the central ethnological photo-archive with more than 70,000 photographic units.
Open: Tuesday - Sunday from 10.00 to 18.00
Closed on Mondays.
How to get there
By foot from the Prešernov square: Take a walk on Trubarjeva street and then turn left on the Metelkova street.
By bus: Take bus 02, 09 or 27 an exit on the bus station Friškovec. Then turn on a Metelkova street and you will see the museum on your right after 50 meters.
