A place where history and religion mix together nicely.

Kamenita ul., 10000, Zagreb, Croatia

If you want to check out this site, you will find it in the Upper Town part of Zagreb. It was built around the 13th century, even tho they don’t have concrete evidence of that.

The Stone Gate has a rich history, it underwent many reconstructions but the most important part of its history is when it became an important religious site. That happened thanks to a fire in 1731 when whole Gradec burned down, houses were turned to ashes but by some miracle a painting of The Holy Mother was left untouched.  Following this event, a chapel was built within the arch of the gate which they dedicated to Mary, mother of Jesus.

People come here to thank The Holy Mother for something that happened to them, or to ask Her for guidance or help. Many times you will be able to find lit candles there, the wall of the gates is covered in ‘thank you’ plaques. If you’re a religious person, you will definitely want to visit this site, it simply has that peaceful vibe which makes you feel protected and loved.

You can visit this site any day you want, it’s open 24 hours a day. There are no tickets, so it’s completely free. If you want to have some peace and silence, this is the right place for you.
