Outstanding whale-watching tour in North of Iceland

Ambassador Whale Whatching Torfunesbryggja 600 Akureyri

Watching whales has become one of the most popular tourist activities in Iceland. Why is it so? I guess firstly because not everyone has had a chance to see a real whale in its natural habitat and secondly because it is so easy do be done in the waters surrounding Iceland. There are plenty of tour companies offering whale watching tours all around the country so you should do a little bit of research yourself taking into consideration your desired parameters such as length of the tour, location, price etc. However, if you do not feel like flipping through all the plenty of offers, my personal advice would be to go up north as there the chances of seeing the majestic sea creatures are very very high and the emotions will be nearly indescribable.

There are several great tour companies operating from various locations. Ambassador is the main touring company in Akureyri but there are also several other operators in nearby towns such as  Arctic Sea Tours  in Dalvik and Níels Jónsson in Hauganes. Whales that can be seen most oftentimes during these tours are Humpback whales and Mink Whales. It is also very likely that you will see some Porpoises and Dolphins. Since Akureyri is a gorgeous and cozy town where to spend a day or two, I would suggest setting off from there with Ambassador. Each whale watching tour on Ambassador lasts around 3 hours but bare in mind that the success of the tour largely depends on the weather conditions. However, if you will get to see a whale, I can promise, it is an experience that is hard to be forgotten! Plus the scenery formed by the crystal blue fjords and sublime mountains will surely astonish you!
