One of the most mysterious places on Earth, where sound cannot be heard

La Zona del Silencio is just about one of the most interesting places in the world. It is part of the Bolsón de Mapimí, a large desertic region between the states of Durango, Chihuahua and Coahila in the northern part of Mexico.

So, why is it called the “Silence Zone?” It is not because it is forbidden to make noise here, but because you can be as noisy as possible and no one who is inside the zone with you will be able to hear (perhaps it’s the perfect place to confess your deepest, darkest secrets?!). The zone doesn’t have a precise location because locals says it moves around.

In many ways, it is just like a Bermuda Triangle, except it is located on land. Many strange happenings have occurred here due to the place’s unusual magnetism. In the year 1970, Athena, a missile sent from Green River, Utah lost control over the area and met its end.  During prehistorical times, the zone was located underneath a former sea known as Sea of Thetis, traces and fossils of the the marine life that inhabited it can still be seen scattered around the area.

La Zona del Silencio is also the home to many endemic species, many of which did exist in the rest of the world but are now extinct and only reside in the area.

Many stories and legends are told about this area, from the one mentioned previously that states that it moves around, to the one that says it is a base for aliens. It is hard to deny them, though, as this place is truly unique and somewhat alien-looking. Could it be true?
