Best Thermal Baths in Hungary

Hungary is famous for its thermal baths, thats why the country is often dubbed “The land of spas”. According to estimates, there are approximately a thousand natural spring water sources in Hungary, many of which have medicinal properties and even the Ottomans knew this back in the 16th century. A trip to Hungary is not complete without a visit to at least one thermal bath. Here are our favourites:

 

Gellért Baths

The Gellért Baths are one of the most famous baths not just in Budapest, but in Hungary. Built in a gorgeous Art Nouveau style, it dates back to the year 1918. While visiting, you will not only rejoice in the warm and relaxing waters, but also enjoy the bath’s historical and artistic heritage.

 

Heviz Thermal Lake

The largest biologically active natural thermal lake in the world is located in the village of Heviz. The water’s and the lake bed’s specific composition leads to unique micro organisms, which contribute to the water’s healing properties. But that is not all – it is surrounded by wonderful natural scenery – gorgeous hills inclusive!

 

Szechenyi Bath

Being over a hundred years old, Szechenyi Baths attracts thousands of people yearly. Occasionally, parties are held here – a must for anyone in Budapest!

 

Kiraly Bath

Kiraly Bath (along with Rudas Bath), is the oldest thermal bath in Budapest. Built in the 16th century, these bath was is the work of the Ottoman Turks. If you happen to love historical places, you won’t regret a visit to these baths as they have an amazing historical atmosphere that feels like traveling back in time.

 

Rudas Bath

Another Ottoman bath, this one was built in the year 1550 and its heritage can be seen in its dome and octagonal pool. This bath is a bit different as there are “men only” and “women only” days.

 

Lukacs Bath

The Lukacs baths have become famous in the past years, especially for youngsters, due to the ever-lasting parties that are held here every Saturday known as “Magic Bath Parties”
