A cenote is a natural sinkhole that results from the collapse of limestone. Unique to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, they are a must-see when in the area. In fact, coming to Yucatan Peninsula without visiting a cenote can make people consider that you were never there at all!
Cenotes were often used by the Mayas to perform sacrifices and many items that have given clue to the life of the culture have been found in the water.
Cenotes today are ideal for swimming, snorkeling and some are perfect for those who enjoy cave diving. Make sure to check out these fantastic ones we have picked up for you when in Quintana Roo!
