Škofja Loka, the best-preserved Medieval town in Slovenia

Located in the Gorenjska region, Škofja Loka is the best-preserved Medieval town in Slovenia. The town has been built at the confluence of the rivers Poljanska Soca and Selška Sora for more than a thousand years. Its beautiful Medieval architecture is an impressive sight. The tall bell tower of the Church of St. Jacob is part of the panoramic view of Škofja Loka.

The town old core has many point of interests. The beautiful Capuchin’s bridge, also known as the Stone Bridge, goes across the river Selška Sora. The Capuchin Monastery Archives and Library has a precious collection of old manuscripts and books.  A defensive wall with five gates used to protect the town old core, the Selca town gate is the only one with an arched passage. The Granary, with its irregular rectangular shape, 2 doors, and 39 windows, is one of the best-preserved Medieval structures in Škofja Loka.

The Loka Castle, built around 1200 and located above the city, is surrounded by beautiful gardens. The museum inside the castle has many interesting exhibitions.
