Did you know that Chicago is the second largest Serbian city? It inhabits around 400.000 Serbs. Another interesting fact that connects this city to our own country is that Chicago is a sister city to Belgrade. This is enough to convince you that you will definitely feel welcome in the 3rd most populous city in the U.S., but what is there to see in the city of Chicago?
From the perspective of someone that has visited Chicago, I will tell you about a few great locations that you can visit. First let’s start with the obvious one, as you can it the picture above, it is the Willis tower, formerly known as the Sears tower. Once the tallest building in the world now occupies the number two spot in the U.S. surpassed only by the newly build One Trade Center in New York and is currently in the 12th tallest building in the world. The Willis Tower offers a quick elevator ride to its skydeck located on the 103rd floor. After arriving there you will be amazed by the breathtaking view, and there is also a souvenir shop where you can, among other things, buy small statues of the building.
If you love dinosaurs there is no better place for you than Chicago. During your visit to the Field Museum you will be able to “meet” Sue, the largest and best preserved skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus Rex ever found. It is 12.8 meters long and 4 meters tall from the hip. There are many exhibits to see, from meeting the world of Mammoths, those majestic beasts that ruled the Ice Age, learning something new about the man-eating lions of Tsavo and take a peek into the lives of the Vikings.
In addition, you can explore the inside of an ancient Egyptian tomb or “shrink” yourself to the size of a bug and see what the world is like from their perspective. There is also a great variety of interactive workshops and you will have a chance to meet a scientist and learn more about their profession. Tickets are reasonably priced and there are also discounts for children, students and seniors.
One of the most amazing places is the city is the beautiful beach on lake Michigan. From one side you are surrounded by skyscrapers and on the other is the huge Michigan lake that really resembles a sea more than a lake because of its size and a sandy beach. A great number of tourists can be seen here during most of the year here. However, I have one very important tip for you – do not wear speedos because this is not Europe.
If you are visiting during the NBA season, visiting the Chicago Bulls is a must. The home of the legendary Michael Jordan, the United Center can welcome around 20.000 fans per game and the atmosphere is incredible.
In conclusion, there is nothing left for you than to pack your bags! There is just so much to see in this wonderful city, the people are friendly so you will have no trouble during your stay, but 10 days is simply not enough to see everything that needs to be seen.
