For those who did not live there or grow up there—seeing Memphis is a real dream for many; myself included. There are many reasons why one might want to visit Memphis, Tennessee, but one of the biggest and more obvious reasons is the music and history. Memphis has long been known as one of the music capitals of the United States, and the place where Elvis lived out his long, tumultuous life. Therefore, there is plenty of rich history and culture to indulge yourself in. Not to mention all the souvenirs you can grab along the way.
1. A blues t-shirt
The southern United States is well-known for its country music and that is often all people think of regarding the south. However, the south is also home to one of the biggest blues and country communities in the entire world. Rock and roll and country music birthed a lot of legendary musicians in this area, so if you visit, be sure to pick up some music memorabilia.
No matter what your preference in music, you are going to find something you can get down to while you visit the southern states. Getting back to the blues, t-shirts are not all you will find. In fact, you will find just about any other item of apparel you can imagine as well. You won’t have to search for long before you find something to your liking.
2. Music related artwork
No matter what you are looking for, some of the music related artwork you are going to find in Memphis, TN is simply irresistible. From Elvis to Reba McIntyre and beyond, legendary music memorabilia exist all over the place as aforementioned. Some of the best and perhaps more meaningful gifts are the pieces of concert art, legendary photographs, and sculpture that can be found everywhere.
Artists in the community sculpt guitar and other music-related objects that are designed to hang on the wall. They are not only well-made but incredibly interesting as well. The intricate design found on some makes it hard to believe they were handmade. Either way, they make for great souvenirs and home décor, or wonderful gifts for loved ones. No matter what you decide, the owner will certainly enjoy it.
3. Elvis souvenirs
With souvenir shops located mere 400 feet away from the infamous Graceland mansion, you will not be hard-pressed to find Elvis Presley souvenirs. Many of these shops not only sell memorabilia directly linked to Elvis, they also buy them. So, if you have come across some interesting Elvis pieces throughout your life that you have scooped up, you might run into an opportunity to make some money.
In addition to Elvis souvenirs, you can also find a variety of other early rock and roll memorabilia. There are souvenir shops out this way that is a part of the EME or Elvis Presley Enterprises, and a few that are not. No matter which direction you decide to take—I guarantee you will not be disappointed in everything Memphis has to offer the red-blooded American Elvis fan! And while you are down there, why not sell off a few memorabilia and make a couple dollars on your vacation? That’s not something you can say you have achieved on most vacations!
4. Child-friendly gifts
While almost every souvenir shop is stocked with gifts for everyone from grown men to little children. However, the children’s souvenirs that you will find down south in Memphis are quite unique from the ones found in other states. For example, you will find Elvis attire for children as small as infants, and Johnny Cash onesies that will please any parent of a child from infants to 2-3 years old. After all, who wouldn’t want their little one dressed like the man in black?!
If you have older children or friends with older kids, you will also find plenty in store for those from 8 to 18 years old. For these older children and young adults, you will find plain Memphis t-shirts as well as the classic rock and roll memorabilia I mentioned earlier. Finally, tie-dye is something that seems to never quite fade out of style completely. So, as you can guess, there are plenty of tie-dyed goods for kids and teens.
5. Pride merchandise
Whether you are a member of the LGBTQ community, you know someone that is, or you are a supporter of this community—there are many southern pride shops to hit up. Pride merchandise goes beyond your every day bumper stickers and other small merchandise. In fact, you would be surprised to see some of the things you can find down in Memphis. 6. Exotic nuts
I do not care who you are—most of the population enjoys the pleasant flavor of those protein-packed little gems known as nuts. Even if there are varieties you do not quite enjoy, I believe there is at least one variety of nut that everyone does like – even if it is the just the humble peanut. In Memphis, TN you will find some of the best fresh, exotic nuts, roasted, candied, or even some on the spicier side.
Some of these shops have been around since the early 1950’s, which mean, the purveyors of these nut stores know a thing or two about their trade. Looking for a gift or souvenir for a loved one back home? No worries. These stores have plenty of gift-ready options with tins filled with nuts, candies, pretzels – you name it.
