Remember the old scene in Wayne’s World where Garth and Wayne meet Alice Cooper? Well, that was actually filmed in Milwaukee – and for good reason. Milwaukee is a happening city with a lot of culture and mass production of a whole lot of goods that are loved by everyone in the United States. It is the fifth largest city in the Midwest and the most populated city in Wisconsin.
Milwaukee is often referred to as a big city with a small town feel that allows both its residents and visitors a quaint yet exciting experience. Located along the West coast of Lake Michigan which inevitably leads you to some beautiful beaches that are well worth your time. Apart from the beaches and landscape, the architecture in this city is nothing to sneeze at. From extraordinarily tall buildings to historical buildings with a story—the city itself is quite astounding. With over 500,000 residents, it is an economic and cultural hub.
1. Local Art
There are multiple areas in Milwaukee where you can find your share of homemade goods and pieces of art made right in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. For starters, there are a lot of hand-dipped wax candles that are designed to burn slowly and efficiently, with a variety of scents. Next, we have a massive array of homegrown succulents inside homemade pots that make for excellent décor. Last but not least, there is quite the selection of earrings and other hand-made jewelry that is sure to draw in your interest.

3. Beer Memorabilia
For those of you who might be unaware, Milwaukee, Wisconsin is basically the beer capital of the United States. This means you will find your share of beer factories in which you can actually take tours—it really is quite the treat. For example Miller and Coors both sell an almost infinite amount of goods like apparel, home décor, and accessories. The possibilities are truly endless. One of the cuter pieces I found was a blue shirt with Beer printed on the back with 30 underneath like a jersey.
4. Fairtrade Goods
There are many ethically sourced stores in the area of Milwaukee, many of which are so unique you will not find them anywhere else. Fairtrade belongings are made with ethics in mind, ensuring that both sides of the sale are of course fair, but also beneficial. From beautiful armoires to lovely totes with Aztec designs and similar blankets—there is a lot to find at these fair-trade stores. The best part is, many of these goods are handcrafted by locals from all over the world so you know you are helping someone who is perhaps in need.
5. Wisconsin Cheese
If I had to choose one aspect of Wisconsin that is most well-known – I would have to say it is their cheese. In fact, residents of the area are often referred to as cheese heads. And after all, who does not like cheese? Therefore, I highly recommend checking out the cheese stores in Milwaukee. After all, they are practically everywhere. And not only can you get a wide variety of cheeses, but you can get cheese curds, cheese baskets, and baskets filled with cheese, crackers, and sausage.
6. Cooking Spices
You would be in absolute disbelief at the number of spices you can find around the Milwaukee area. Of course, you can go into any supermarket or grocery store and find whole aisles of spices, but, here you just might stumble upon something new. From chicken to barbeque, vegetable and beef, and many, many more – you can literally cook your way around the world. Not such a gourmand in the kitchen? That’s ok, practically anyone can find a use for these spices which is why they make such great gifts.
