The biggest building on the Linhart Squre is the Radovljica Mansion, which attracts visitors with its beautiful baroque design. Do not be afraid to come in – two museums and stunning concert hall await you!

Short history of the Radovljica Mansion

The mansion was built around 1460, but was later renovated a couple of times and its current design is from the beginning of the 17th century. Its beautiful façade is decorated in a traditional baroque style from the 18th century.

Although Radovljica Mansion was owned by several important people, it was never a really recognized mansion. Its more powerful residents were the counts of Ortenburg (who built the mansion) and the counts of Dietrichstein (who did most of the renovations), but the mansion was also home to the courts of Celje and rulers from the house of Habsburg.

Baroque, baroque, baroque!

Only a few features from the original design of the Radovljica Mansion can still be seen today and most of the mansion is now redecorated in a baroque style. The exterior of the mansion is decorated in a traditional High Baroque façade from the 18th century with interesting decorations.

Inside the mansion you can see the entrance and concert halls, both decorated in a traditional baroque style. They are located next to the ballroom with a restored ceiling painting from the same era.

Two museums are arranged on the first floor of the Radovljica Mansion – the Museum of Apiculture and Municipal Museum of Radovljica.

The Museum of Apiculture is a unique museum, dedicated to the rich history of beekeeping in Slovenia. It features one of the largest exhibitions dedicated to beekeeping in Europe and the largest collection of painted beehive panels.

You can also learn about the life of bees and about the autochthonous Carniolan honey bee here. The Municipal Museum of Radovljica exhibits two collections: the first is named “Radovljica: our old town in time” and it is dedicated to the development of the city between from 14th – 18th centuries, and the second is “Anton Tomaž Linhart: Now I am thinking about how to become famous”, which is dedicated to the important Slovene writer Anton Tomaž Linhart.

Radovljica Mansion often hosts to interesting events such as concerts and can also be rented for a private wedding. Guided tours of the mansion are available with prior arrangements.

Behind the Radovljica Mansion is a nice park, with three-lined alley which is called Gaber’s Avenue. This is one of the remaining parts of old baroque garden which was arranged behind the mansion during the 17th century. A vault and monument to the victims of the World War II are also located in the park.
